Retinol - Understanding the purpose

Retinol - Understanding the purpose

Ok, you wanted info on Retinol... here we go...

First, What is Retinol?

Reitnol is a form of Vitamin A that speeds up cell turnover meaning it rapidly creates cells helping to promote a new, firm and smoother skin appearance. It has incredible influence on hyperpigmented areas too which in turn completely evens out the skin tone.

Retinol already exists in the body…yes literally. BUT due to poor diet, insufficient intake of vitamins and improper or inadequate serums and creams, the body looses Vitamin A levels and therefore looses levels of Retinol. When this happens you notice skin looking and feeling sad!

When you use Retinol directly (I’ll explain more below) the body converts it into Retinoic Acid which is the final form that goes ahead and repairs everything. Skin looks amazing, beautiful flawless, AMAZING but… can also have serious irritation, rashes, excessively drying the skin and basically like an overload or overdose to the area.
Retinol is not available in foods or drinks or supplements… it can only be manifested by the body. How do we increase out Retinol level?

Here’s the ‘Ah-ha’ moment…

The answer is, but using and ingesting foods, fluids and skincare that contains high concentrates of Beta-Carotene (β-Carotene)!!! Beta-carotene is a family member to a mob of colour pigments known as carotenoids.

When we use a serum on our skin, eat a certain food or drink a certain juice that has high level of Beta-Carotene, our body accepts that and converts it into Vitamin A.
Retinol is a family member of Vitamin A.

I’ll explain in metaphoric terms, because I LOVE when I learn like this…

Say you wanted to organize a family reunion, the invitation says 'The Carotenoid Family Reunion';
Your body is the venue, Vitamin A is the host and Retinol is the cousin everyone loves but they’re socially inappropriate and if they arrive being loud and boisterous it really kills the vibes. Likely why the cousin is only invited to something once a year LOL
Retinol is kin and important and brings a vibrant necessity to every party, they're a little intimidating on their own. Never the less, the party isn't the same without them and you always can tell when they aren't there at all.

If you want to NATURALLY increase your Retinol levels, then applying serums and creams that contain oils with rich Beta-Carotene properties (carotenoids) aswell as incorporating more of the foods that also have Beta-Carotene in them will you wont need to reach for lab made Retinol. The Retinoic Acid only works when it is applied and does not have lasting effect so once you stop using it, things just go back to normal- like the noise level at the part when cousin Retinol finally departs.

Some people experience really troubled skin and NEED Retinol to help completely restore the cell production almost like an instant fix to bring skin to a healthier level, so this is fine but I would caution anyone to ensure they use Retinol under the guidance of a skin specialist or professional skincare clinics. Just because it is over the counter does not mean it shouldn’t still be monitored! Treat Retinol like as if it was a medication, speak to a professional just like you would any other medication you feel may work for your situation.
